Before you fly

Travel information

Everything practical you need to know before your Tanzanian journey.

Getting there

  • Kilimanjaro International (JRO) serves the Northern Circuit; Dar es Salaam (DAR) serves the south and Zanzibar.
  • We include airport transfers on all private safaris.
  • Domestic hops between parks are on light aircraft with a 15kg soft-bag limit.

Visas & entry

  • Most nationalities can apply online for an e-visa before travel.
  • Passports must be valid for six months beyond arrival with two blank pages.
  • Yellow fever certificate required only if arriving from an endemic country.

Health

  • Antimalarial prophylaxis is recommended for all safari areas.
  • Routine vaccinations plus hepatitis A and typhoid are commonly advised.
  • All vehicles carry first-aid kits; guides are wilderness first-aid trained.

Best time to travel

  • June to October: dry season, superb general wildlife viewing.
  • January to March: calving season in the southern Serengeti.
  • April to May: green season, fewer travellers, lower rates.

Money & tipping

  • US dollars (2009 or newer) are widely accepted; cards work in cities.
  • Guide tipping guidance: USD 20-30 per vehicle per day.
  • Park fees and government levies are always included in our quotes.

What to pack

  • Neutral layers, a warm fleece for early game drives and a wide-brim hat.
  • Binoculars, spare camera batteries and a dust-proof bag.
  • Soft duffel rather than hard cases for light-aircraft transfers.
